Fukui Castle Ruins

This place is the ruins of the castle of the the last feudal lord of the Fukue feudal domain, and was the newest castle in Japan built at the end of the Edo period . It is famous as the only sea castle in Japan where three sides of the wall face the sea. The castle began construction in August 1849 during the Edo period and was completed in June 1863, but was later demolished in the 9th year of the Meiji Restoration. Stone bridges and stone walls made of natural stones still exist, reminiscent of the appearance of Fukue Castle in the past.
